+++END MISSIVE+++

The Undoing is a horror game set in the Warhammer 40k Universe. Players will take control of the members of a doomed squad of Penal Troopers – criminals under a suspended death sentence, used as shock troops and cannon fodder – as they descend into the grimdark wilds to face an existential threat beyond their understanding.

It is not a question of how they will die, rather, whether you can make your deaths count for something.

As a horror game, this session will explore many of the unpleasant elements of the 40k universe – specifically Supernatural, Body and Psychological horror, together with a fair bit of Gore. Please get in touch if you want to check whether this game will be right for you.

The Cage of Sermit

System: Troika
GM: Stephen Blyth (aka Blythy)

A chance encounter with a strange noblewoman leads you to the purple deserts of Serimit and a mission to rescue a sorcerer who holds secrets to save a drowning world.

Troika is a game of science fantasy using the Advanced Fighting Fantasy system. Travel the spheres in golden mirror-sailed barges playing character classes such as Vengeful Child, Poorly Made Dwarf, Sorcerer of the Academy of Doors, Lonesome Monarch.

Think Vance’s Dying Earth set in a world illustrated by Rodney Matthews. The strange worlds of Troika await.

Please Note, this is one of the games being offered for November’s meetup, for which we are doing player registration for so we know numbers.

A Dry Run in Prax

GM: Newt
System: RuneQuest

So “General” Baldrox is dead. Good riddance.

You can just leave him there in the dust and let the vultures eat his corpse (or maybe not, perhaps even Vultures have taste). Now your unit from Lunar Tarsh, survivors of the fall of Pavis, can make a run for home. The problem is that your group is known as Baldrox’s Bastards amongst the locals, home is hundreds of miles away across enemy territory, and supplies and morale are running low. Your only hope is to make it through the desert from the hole you are currently hiding in. Avoid the Beast Riders who are hunting you. Pray you don’t stumble across any foul chaos monsters. Then you might be able to find the testing ground that Sorcerers of the Imperial College of Magic set up in the Wastes. Perhaps they have a Moon Boat which you can sail all the way home?

So chin up solider. The Red Moon Will Rise Again!

This is a game using the new RuneQuest Glorantha rules. No familiarity is needed with either the setting or the rules (although if you are familiar with Call of Cthulhu you are halfway there). Be aware you are playing the villains of the default set up, in a game that riffs of the tropes of spaghetti westerns and more gritty World War 2 movies (such as Cross of Iron/Das Boot/Stalingrad).

Please Note, this is one of the games being offered for November’s meetup, for which we are doing player registration for so we know numbers.

Nevermind the Buzzcoughs

System: Vurt
GM: Chris Hart (aka Dirk The Dice).

Get feathered up and enter the Vurt space of Bolton: one of the wealthiest and most influential areas of Manchester, where you’ll find the most courageous feather-heads who have a taste of all the new feathers before they hit the other boroughs; Hybrids, Blacks and yellows, they’re all here and you’ll get to taste them. Meet me in ‘The Man and Psyche’ as we adventure in futuristic Manchester created by Jeff Noon. It’s a cyber-punk journey into dream-space with unusual characters and exotic encounters: it’s Numenera, with rain. (Mature content- simulated drug use – 18+)

This is one of the games being offered for November’s meetup, which we are doing player registration for so we know numbers.

Ascendancy

“Get your ass to Mars, Marines!! Vacation is over!

The Martians are revolting, and it’s up to us to restore harmony for our ever-loving corporate masters. Once again, we have the honour of being the nearest Colonial Marine Unit within the distance of this flare-up of anti-corporate feeling, so pick your kit up and get your head in the game!

There will be a full briefing when we reach UN Base in Martian Orbit. But now all you need to know that some weird-ass cult who claim to follow the ancient Egyptian God of Deserts and Evil, Set, have taken up arms and blockaded themselves in the poor district. Thereby transferring themselves off the protected religious minorities list and onto the list of bonafide terrorist organisations! Remember you will be acting within the Colonial Act of 2105. So that means no civilian casualties or damage to corporate-owned property!

Right get down to the cryo-pods where Private Smith will tuck you in!”

Sargent Reeves, UNE Colonial Marines 23rd Corp, on deck UNES Thatcher while in Earth Orbit,  November 20 2270 AD.

Ascendancy is a Sci-fi Horror adventure. It will be using a hacked version of the Liminal RPG system, a simple 2d6 vs target number system. Inspiration for the setting comes from  Ancient Egyptian Mythology and 80s action sci-fi/horror films.

Fire!

It is the 18.07.1997 and you all enjoy the 100-year celebrations of Stewart Creek. Jens Adamson, your great-great-grandfather, was one of the founders of the town. The Gold Rush brought him here and he thrived. You, the last remaining members of his family, are important and honoured quests at the festivities. What a great day…

More information:

This game uses the Dead of Night rpg system by Steampowered publishing. It is a highly regarded indie-rpg, that is tightly focused on giving a horror experience.

GPM dates for October, November 2019 and Jan 2020

It’s like buses this time out, with not one but three dates!  One of them is jolly exciting, so read on!

Sunday 27th October Our usual 1 pm to 5 pm meet up. If you want to GM contact me over the next couple of days and I’ll open player sign up on Sunday evening.

Sunday 10th November. Since this date is post-Grogmeet, a one-day RPG meet up mainly for old games, which runs on Saturday, I’m opening up attendance to Grogmeeters who’ve not yet fled Manchester to go home.

So if you are coming please let me know, by registering here.

I will be asking everyone to do this so I can plan GMs in advance to match numbers.

So far I have myself, Roderick and Chris (aka Dirk the Dice) who is Grogmeet organiser are down to GM. We need more GMs. So let me know if you would like to when you sign up.

December – No Go Play this month, while Fanboy is happy to have us. I’m going to be swamped with end of term school Christmas concerts.

GPM Winter Con 2019, Saturday 11th January.
To celebrate Go Play Manchester’s 1st Birthday, we shall be holding a one-day mini-con at Fanboy 3. 10 am start – 5 pm finish, with an hour or so for lunch. Two slots, with a possible social afterwards.

I floated this one past some of our regular GM’s so we’ve already got three or so GMs, but with Hedi offering all six tables on the ground floor and me inviting folk from far and wide, we are going to need more GMs. You lot get first dibs, but you need to let me know by return since when I announce it to the wider audience, I’m sure there be no shortage of offers.

Like the Nov GPM, I’m asking everyone to pre-sign via a form on the mini-con’s page.

(BTW advertise this page and let your friends know)

Like a normal GPM, all games will be pre-signed before the event, so you can sit down and play.

I am looking forward to seeing you on the day(s).

All the best

;O) Newt
