This is Not an Exercise

System: River of Heaven (D100 sci-fi)
GM: Newt
Day/Time: Sunday 3rd May 1 – 5 pm.

This is Arnold, the Ship’s AI, thank you for your recent enquiry.

“Where and I’m I and how did I get here?”

Ok, let’s review your situation.

You’re a member of the crew of the star-ship Asher. A merchant vessel working out of Jericho and shipping luxury goods to the worlds of the Kentauran Hegemony.

This job has a high turnover, and you’re a newcomer, one of six, joining an existing crew of three old-timers. Due to the importance of this job, the company has chosen to be completely compatible with one another via a series of biometric and psychological tests you went through during selection.

Even with the short jumps in the hold of a Step Ship, where the Asher will be one of many vessels its carrying through the wormholes that its Visser Cube creates, it’s a long-haul job. Where you are going to spend most of your time in cryostasis, with your mind occupied in VR. It’s a bit like dreaming, but you’re in charge, and it’s all a computer-generated.  You are in VR-sleep now. You are on route to Turan-Prime, a round trip that will take approximately 23 years.

Occasionally I, Arnold, will run disaster-scenarios, to gather data for my risk-management processes. Do not be alarmed if you appear to be woken up abruptly from Cryo-Sleep with the ship’s systems flashing red and stating, “This is not an exercise!”. Please play along to allow me to gather data efficiently for your health and safety.

Such a disaster scenario is about to run soon
