A Touch of the Sun

System: Beyond Dread Portals
GM: Newt Newport
Adventure by Paul Mitchener

Day: Sunday 12th April
Time: 1-5pm.

You joined the Ysian Explorer’s Guild to pursue a life of adventure, to get away from the drab and desolate streets of the City of Ys. Which every day is getting colder and greyer under the boney fist of the undead Autarch.

So now a job that offers just that. The Emerald Order have a job to investigate a magical doorway that leads to a tropical paradise. So easy peasy just a quick exploration job, go through the portal and write a quick review for the Emerald Order when you get back from your little holiday. Shame the portal is in an abandoned house that’s gained a reputation of being haunted.

Beyond Dread Portals is a fantasy D20 game of exploration and wonder, using a straightforward system derived from D&D with some narrative elements. We are calling it post-D&D. The characters are 3rd Level, and are capable and sometimes flamboyant explorers, in the multi-planar worlds of the Empire of YS.

Return to the Savage North

System: OpenQuest 3
GM: Newt Newport

Day Saturday 12 March

You are the Drakar, proud people of the Ice Dragon.  Who in ancient times liberated the Savage North from the Vampire Lords of the Outer Darkness at the end of the Blood Age.

The Ice Dragon buried the Vampire Lord Throk in its temple, under several kilometres of ice. The best thing for this fiend.

But now the Mad King of Sonderland wants you to enter the temple to find a magical mirror to settle a wager.

Salara the Wise Woman says the only way down through the ice is using the steel Sword of Krum himself

Problem is Krum cares not!

More Information
Swords and Sorcery mayhem using the straightforward D100 rules of OpenQuest 3. No need to have any knowledge of the system or setting, just the ability to swing a sword and engage in high pulp fantasy action.

Survival of the Fittest

System: Shadow of the Demon Lord
GM: Guy Milner

Day Sunday 12th April
Time 1-5pm

When vicious bandits waylay a caravan bound for an outpost on the edge of civilization, you are the only survivors, trapped and lost in a hostile wilderness.

If you would live to see another day, you must learn to work together and discover the people they might one day become.

Shadow of the Demon Lord is a D20-adjacent system of dark, doomed fantasy, where terrible dangers lurk everywhere and adventurers must strive to delay the inevitable doom. No prior system knowledge is needed – it’s a really straightforward system.

This adventure is 1st level, with pregens provided – and a few spares as well, since it’s possible not everyone will make it out of the Old Wood alive.

Players: 3-5

Greenwood of the Fey Sovereign

System Dungeon Crawl Classics
GM Neil Benson

Day Saturday 11th April

Time: 1 pm – 5 pm

War is looming. The Earl of Nanch and his neighbouring elven kingdom are sharpening the spears of aggression. Those on the border are split between two dangerous dynasts. Pressed into duty for lord and country, the peasants and gong farmers of Nanch find themselves in a strange and unnerving forest full of denizens older than the practice of naming. In this new world, the rules of life and death are a game of whimsy practiced by fantastic forces, and bizarre ancient feuds re-ignite in the chaos of war. Those errant attendants of Nanch will be fortunate to survive the madness of either ruler!

A Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) level 0 funnel for 4 to 5 players

Additional Information

Dungeon Crawl Classics is a d20 based system that will be easily picked up players familiar with any edition of D&D. The publisher Goodman Games, explains it best:

“You’re no hero.

You’re an adventurer: a reaver, a cutpurse, a heathen-slayer, a tight-lipped warlock guarding long-dead secrets. You seek gold and glory, winning it with sword and spell, caked in the blood and filth of the weak, the dark, the demons, and the vanquished. There are treasures to be won deep underneath, and you shall have them.

Return to the glory days of fantasy with the Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game. Adventure as 1974 intended you to, with modern rules grounded in the origins of sword & sorcery. Fast play, cryptic secrets, and a mysterious past await you: turn the page…”

Plus funky dice, how many other games have d5, d7, d14, d22 and d30?

The 0-level funnel is the perfect convention, one-shot adventure format, great for new and experienced players alike. Each player has between 2 and 4 level 0 pre-generated characters – farmers, peasants, guards – who are plunged into a dangerous adventure. Not all of them will survive (in fact many of them will die in the most glorious of fashions), but for those who do an upgrade to level 1 awaits! These adventures are always a lot of fun that place problem solving and action over detailed backgrounds and in-depth roleplaying.
