The Haarvest

System: Dark Heresy/WFRP 4e hybrid
GM: Roderick Hamilton

We came for the tithe. It came for us.

In the grim darkness of the far future, the Imperium of Man spans a million worlds. Vast fleets patrolling the stars, trillions of soldiers under arms, and wondrous feats of near-magical engineering are all that stands between mankind and annihilation. …and someone’s got to pay for all that. And someone else has to work out, “how much?” That’s where you come in.

In this Lovecraft-inspired session, you will play one of a small band of bureaucrats and skilled civilians assigned the onerous task of inspecting and assessing the island settlements of The Brume, a remote archipelago on a recently reconquered human colony. This session will focus on investigation and mystery, with the potential for action and gore.

This is one of the games for Grim Con 2020 – registration open now.

Blood on Brown Corduroy

System: Liminal
GM: Roderick Hamilton

It’s 1974. Bagpuss is on the telly, John Pertwee’s still The Doctor, and the Three Day Week has just kicked in – but you’ve got your own problems. You’re someone who has been touched by the strange in some way, drawn onto the precipice of the Hidden World, and thought your future was out there in the wider world – but the funeral of an important figure from your childhood has drawn you back to South Manchester and reunited you with your old schoolmates. Something seems off about it all though – Maybe the Hidden World was here, back home, all along? It’s up to you and your chums to find out. And you’ve got to do it all while wearing a shirt with massive lapels.

Blood on Brown Corduroy is a mystery scenario using the acclaimed Liminal game system. It will be run over Roll20, with Discord as preferred voice/video communication channel (although the latter is up for negotiation). Some action and light horror expected, no Player V Player or adult content.

Nyarlathotep: His Part in My Downfall

GM: Roderick Hamilton
Rules: Only War (set in WW2 Cthulhu).
Max number of players: 4

Day: Sunday 29 March.

Description:
There’s sand in your shoes, sand in your tank, sand in your cuppa char, and Rommel’s got the Afrika Korps breathing down your neck. The last thing you and the lads need is an encounter with inexplicable forces, knowledge of which could Drive One Mad From The Revelation! Luckily you and the rest of the crew of D for Dragon have what it takes to handle such circumstances – Courage, Pluck, and a few dozen rounds of 75mm High Explosive, courtesy of the Yanks.

This scenario places the players as the crew of a British M3 Grant medium tank in the Western Desert theatre, early 1942. Themes of exploration, adventure, and cosmic horror are expected, no player-versus-player, personal horror or heavy gore. Combat is to be expected but should only take up around 25% of the session. No historical knowledge required, and if you have a lot of it, be prepared to hold it in for the sake of the other players. Nerdy chat is welcome before and after.

This is part of the 1st Go Play Manchester Online meetup on Saturday28 /Sunday 29 March, which you can sign up to here.

The Great Wain Robbery

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th EditionSystem: WFRP (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay) 4E
GM: Roderick Hamilton

Every year, Baron Von Mark’s tithes all come rumbling into town on one big old Wain. It’s heavily guarded, kept under lock and key. His best troops patrol the grounds. His basement vault is impregnable.

Nobody’s ever stolen so much as a pfennig from the Baron.
Until now.

The Great Wain Robbery is a classic Heist movie, set in the Warhammer Old World, where you will play one of a band of no-good halfling criminal masterminds seeking one big score to set them up for life.

As part of this band of miniature mobsters, you will meticulously plan and prepare to execute a cunning and elaborate ruse, then set the heist running to see how it plays out.

For fans of capers, escapades, and horribly elaborate heists.

It is not a question of how they will die, rather, whether you can make your deaths count for something.

– Free Uniform!
+++Defend Proud Vuultath from the Enemies of Mankind!+++

The Emperor Protects will use the Only War system to give you a taste of life as an ordinary human in the vast Warhammer 40,000 universe.

You will play citizen-soldiers of a small market town on one of the innumerable worlds in the Imperium, rising to the defence of your neighbours as a shadow falls across your world.

The odds will be long. The price of failure immense. But you will show the citizens of Vuultath that The Emperor Protects.

“To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.”

Only War uses a percentile system for easily adapted combat, and The Emperor Protects will include streamlined rules in order to keep the story moving quickly. Players can expect some interaction and investigation, along with tactical planning and deadly, deadly combat.
